About the Center for Biorefining

The mission of Center for Biorefining is to coordinate the University efforts and resources to conduct exploratory fundamental and applied research and provide education on engineering and biological aspects of renewable energy renewable chemicals and materials, and environment protection; stimulate collaboration among the University researchers, other public sector investigators, and private investigators involved in biobased production technology development; promote technology transfer to industries; foster economic development in rural areas; and promote circular economy and sustainability.

The center takes a unique biorefining approach to the production of a broad spectrum of bio-energy and bio-products including liquid fuels, biopolymers, foods, feeds, and chemicals, etc. from renewable biomass feedstock. Many of these products are traditionally derived from fossil oil.
